Voice by Character Gender and Speech Controls

v1.4.1 · April 10, 2026

What's new

HitCue now assigns a different voice to each character based on their gender. When you study a scene with multiple characters, male roles read in a male voice and female roles in a female voice — automatically, based on the gender you've set. You can also control how fast the voice reads, and an animated indicator shows which line is playing so you always know where you are.

Why it matters for your rehearsal

When one voice reads every character, it's easy to lose track of who's speaking. Listening becomes passive. Assigning gendered voices adds contrast between characters, which keeps you present and helps you pick up your cues more accurately.

Speed control matters at different stages of preparation. Early on you might slow the voice down to absorb text you don't know yet. Later you can push the rate up to simulate pressure, or to compress your warm-up. The reading indicator keeps it visual: you can follow the scene on screen while the audio runs.
